Michelle Merrill, conductor | Randall Goosby, violin

After making his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 13, violinist Randall Goosby has gone on to perform as soloist with many of the top orchestras in the country, including the New York Philharmonic and Cleveland Orchestra, as well as win many prestigious awards including the Isaac Stern Award following his second Carnegie Hall solo performance in 2011. Mr. Goosby will perform two short, well-known works on this program, including the fiendishly difficult Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso, written by Saint-Saëns for the great virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate in 1863. The concert opens with the good-natured Serenade for Wind Instruments by Dvořák and ends with Schubert’s Symphony No. 5, written when the composer was just 19 years old, with his youthful exuberance on full display.
