Eric Jacobsen, conductor & cello | Colleen Blagov, flute

Orlando Philharmonic Music Director and cellist Eric Jacobsen will take the stage as soloist, performing Dvořák’s lush, romantic “Silent Woods.” Originally written for piano four-hands, the composer arranged it for cello and orchestra with this version now more popular than the original piano version.

With upcoming commissions from the Minnesota Orchestra, the Alabama Symphony and others, American composer Judd Greenstein’s music is increasingly in demand. Our Principal Flute Colleen Blagov will give one of the first performances of his Flute Concerto.

Edward Elgar dedicated each movement of his “Enigma” Variations to his “friends pictured within.” The variations, including the stunning “Nimrod,” represent a total of fourteen people and one dog. The enigma itself, the principal theme upon which the variations are written, has never been solved in spite of much research and speculation.
